WELCOME TO Hokkaido

Hokkaido, Japan’s northern most prefecture, is roughly on the same latitude as major cities in the United States and Europe. It is also the largest region in Japan, comprising approximately 22% of the country’s land area.
Surrounded by water (Pacific Ocean, Sea of Japan, and Sea of Okhotsk), Hokkaido’s landscape is shaped by diverse landforms including magnificent, ever changing mountains, vast wetlands, and scenic natural lakes and marshes. In addition to this rich environment, the island has many tourist attractions, including some of the best varieties of seafood, meats, and vegetables, as well as hot springs, the largest number in Japan, and outdoor recreation opportunities such as skiing and snowboarding.
In 2013, Hokkaido welcomed some 1.15 million foreign visitors, close to 10% of the total of all foreign visitors to Japan (10.98 million).
When in Hokkaido, be sure to enjoy all that it has to offer; nature, dining, sports, beautiful towns, and more.
