Hyogo Prefecture is renowned for numerous long-established hot springs, including Arima Onsen, which is counted among the three famous springs of Japan, and Kinosaki Onsen, which frequently appears in literary works. Himeji Castle is Japan’s first ever UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized globally as one of the world’s finest castles. Akashi Kaikyo Bridge is one of the longest suspension bridges in the world, connecting Honshu and Awaji Islands across the Akashi Strait. The bridge offers a magical view when lit up at night. The panoramic 10-million-dollar night view from Mt. Rokko is simply breathtaking.

Hyogo Prefecture boasts many other famous foods. These include Akashiyaki, which is considered the inspiration for takoyaki, Izushi-soba, a unique type of soba that is served on lots of small plates, Himeji oden, which is dipped in ginger soy sauce, Tamba Sasayama black soybeans, grown in the unique climate of the Tamba Sasayama area, and Awaji onions, known for their soft texture, sweet flavor, and mild pungency. Last but not least, Hyogo Prefecture is Japan’s top producer of Yamada Nishiki, a popular variety of sake rice.
