WELCOME TO Kagawa

Kagawa Prefecture is located in northeastern Shikoku and lies in the center of Setonaikai National Park, Japan’s first national park. The prefecture has a crescent shape, featuring the Sanuki Mountains in the south and the Sanuki Plain in the north. Most of its rivers originate in the Sanuki Mountains, flowing north into the Seto Inland Sea.

Kagawa is the smallest prefecture in Japan (1,876.86 km2); its area is roughly divided equally between plains and mountains. To the north, it is connected to Okayama Prefecture via the Great Seto Bridge across the Seto Inland Sea. It borders Tokushima Prefecture to the east and south and Ehime Prefecture to the west.

The coastline, which stretches approximately 737 km, and the many islands that dot the coastal waters form a breathtaking landscape.

The climate is generally warm with low rainfall all year round, characterized by mild temperatures and sunny weather thanks to the Seto Inland Sea. Kagawa’s beautiful nature and warm climate have been appreciated since ancient times, as evidenced by the following passage from a poem in the Manyoshu : “O Sanuki of beautiful seaweed, on which I never tire to look !”
