WELCOME TO Kumamoto

Kumamoto Prefecture is located in the center of Kyushu and has many attractive tourist resources such as Kumamoto Castle, one of the three most famous castles in Japan (currently undergoing restoration due to the impact of the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake), as well as mountains (Aso) and the sea (Amakusa). Kumamoto Prefecture's PR character, Kumamon, is popular not only in Japan but also around the world. There are two World Heritage Sites in Kumamoto Prefecture. The first is Manda Pit (Arao City) and Misumi Nishiko (Uki City), which are components of the Meiji Industrial Revolution Heritage Sites registered in 2015. The second is Sakitsu Village in Amakusa (Amakusa City), which is a component of the Hidden Christian Heritage Sites in the Nagasaki Region registered in 2018. Currently, many semiconductor companies have gathered in Kumamoto due to the construction of a factory by TSMC, a global semiconductor manufacturer, and they are working to create a "new Silicon Island Kyushu." In addition, taking inspiration from the Hsinchu Science Park in Hsinchu City, where TSMC is headquartered (known as "Taiwan's Silicon Valley"), Kumamoto is also working to create a "Kumamoto Science Park Concept" that would be a hub for semiconductor manufacturing and research.
